Sustenance and Sustainability
2018This project considers the commonalities imbedded in our rituals and traditions surrounding food.
Cooking, harvesting, family, friends, recipes, cultural and religious traditions all inform aspects of our common tables. It is in the recalling and telling of our stories that we find these commonalities.

The sound piece in the exhibition was compiled from interviews and anonymous voice recordings collected as a result of requests I made via email and printed invitations left in public spaces. The invitation was to share a story involving food and other people, a memorable experience, a family tradition, etc., by leaving a recording on a voice mail system.

2 channel video and 5 channel sound piece.
